Arts-based Therapies for LTC and Elder Care
In long term care, the arts play a valuable role in conditioning the environment to feel more human, more like home and to prepare individuals for the changes that may come.
Whether it is Music, Art, Dance or Gentle touch our practioners at Earthtones are well adept in the field of geriatric and senior care. We are preapred to offer a full range of these complementary arts based therapies to round out any care team.
The end of life is a very challenging time for individuals in their families, many wonder what they can do to provide a more fulfilling end of life experience for their loved ones and I have seen firsthand how music therapy can help with that. We collect art-based memories through our lives and often these are the memories that come most readily when we are at the final stages; weddings, family gatherings, religious ceremonies all have music and the arts associated with each event and are significant experiences that live deeply in the mind.
Regarding Music Therapy specifically, each culture has special music for specific occasions and these traditions connect us each to an intergenerational sense of well-being and purpose. Using music and the arts to bring about connection and foster a calm environment is a priviledge we enjoy as these types of therapists. Music can purify the space around us and help ease the passing of a loved one. I believe it‘s’ something all people should have access to.
At Earthtones, providing a quality, culturally sensitive, End-of-Life experience for individuals & their families is of the utmost importance & it is our honour to be a part of these last moments in our client’s lives.
